– by Rachel Blevins Investigative Journalist, Ben Swann, recently appeared on RT International to discuss Western Media’s position on the crash of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17, and the fact that it has continually placed the blame on Russia. However, despite multiple headlines from major Western Media outlets over the last week, claiming that there is “international outrage,” and that the “world is waiting for answers from Russia,” no credible evidence has been found.

“That is exactly the problem – the credible evidence does not seem to exist at this point,” said Swann. “If you just do a simple Google search you will find that Washington Post, New York Times, basically every major news network in the United States has reported that there is no question that Russia is involved.”
In contrast to the media, Swann pointed out that we now see the Obama administration, “stepping back on some of its comments about the involvement of Russia, even going as far as to say that there is no evidence right now that shows that the missile or training happened in Russia.”

“Here is what we are going to see happen,” said Swann, “The administration gives this kind of soft explanation that they don’t have evidence, but with a nudge and a wink that says, ‘but we really know.’ Media picks up on that, they will begin to report it a little bit, and then in a few weeks we will see that this becomes a non-story in many ways, because it no longer fits the narrative that the administration was hoping for and that media was hoping for, and they’ll move on to the next story.”

When addressing claims from U.S. Officials, saying that Ukrainian rebels received both the training and the equipment to potentially shoot down a plane, from Russia, Swann uses the same “a nudge and a wink” scenario: U.S. Officials tell Journalists, “We do not have any evidence that this missile came from Russia,” and “We don’t even know that the training happened in Russia, but we are pretty sure, again we are not going to tell you who our sources are, they are speaking anonymously.”

Swann came to the conclusion that, as all of this unravels, “most media will begin to back away from it.”

Swann maintained that the biggest issue isn’t with the Media; it is with the consumers of media, “the listeners, the watchers, the readers.”

“Most people don’t go to news outlets to be informed, they go there to be validated on the belief system they already hold,” said Swann. “Those who want to believe that Russia is responsible will continue to seek out sources that tell them that Russia may be responsible. On the other hand, those who want to believe in some other story will be seeking those sources.”

When it comes to the Media attempting to properly examine YouTube videos and unverified audio recordings that are put forward and supported by Kiev, and that implicate anti-government rebels, Swann argues that, most media has not been rigorous enough. “Media is in this rabid 24/7 news cycle,” said Swann. He went on to say that most Western media outlets are do a very poor job vetting information, because there is “a rush to get any information out as quickly as possible.”

“It seems like a very strange evolution,” said Swann, who predicts that in the next couple of days we will see a “walking back” of this information, where “media sources that were very quick to point fingers at Russia and to say, ‘clearly, they are responsible, there’s no question,’ will begin to walk back some of those comments, and then move on.”

“What there won’t be is a correction to any of the stories that have been very definitive talking about evidence.”

Ben’s the man! Keep the Truth coming. I love how he will always back his discussions up with facts and not just rush to get things out there, that’s why the Truth in Media series rocks and should be an example to all other outlets. News shouldn’t be about ratings but giving the people truth.

Ben, you give ‘the media’ an awful lot of credit. Do you really think that they ‘investigate or vet’ their sources when that is clearly already done for them by the White House? Seems like you were walking on egg shells, there? I still love you and know you are telling us the truth.

The media no longer even attempts to gather facts. They just say what will get people to watch – whether it’s true, partially true, or blatantly false. Disgusting.
