Ben Swann was a guest on the new RT show “In The Now” Wednesday, where he was asked about claims by the U.S. State Department that RT is a propaganda channel.

“Is RT speaking to people in the United States the way that other media are not? Without question, the answer is yes.” says Swann

Swann claims that the State Department is concerned about the message of RT and other non U.S. media beginning to break through and pointed out that only a short time ago, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for the United States to create “its own government propaganda channel to compete with RT, China’s CCTV TV and Press TV from Iran.”

Asked about the claim that only 6 companies in the United States control nearly all media, Swann pointed out that some of those companies have changed ownership since 2011 when that claim was first popularized but that the number of media companies in control hasn’t really changed. He also pointed out that even local television in the United States is controlled by a handful of companies.

“Local media, local TV stations are owned by a variety of different owner but even then you have this enormous concentration of power where one company might own TV stations in 50 or 60 TV markets and provide content for all of those TV markets. So, at the end of the day you have a lot of information being concentrated in very few hands.” says Swann.

“The Cable News audience in America, national news audience is shrinking. Old media is dying in this country and new media is rising.”

Nevertheless, RT has come under fire from not only the state department but from other media in the United States. Especially after RT America anchor Liz Wahl quit live on air. Swann says that evidence of the false left/right paradigm in media can be seen when all media find a common enemy.

“We have a left/right paradigm in this country where media pretends to be at odds with each other over the left wing and the right wing. But in reality when both of those wings begin attacking one particular entity, in this case RT, then you know that paradigm is starting to break down.”

Swann goes on to point out that because national media is controlled by so few executives, it has become increasingly controlled by the crony system. That, he says, is the greatest danger to journalism.

“Those executives are becoming so entwined in a crony system with politicians, that it really has become a form of propoganda. Where on the local level and in the newsroom level, journalists don’t really have a say. They are not allowed to talk about certain issues in this country. We are not allowed to show certain pictures. I just had a conversation with someone today, I asked them, ‘When was the last time in the United States that we saw a picture on national or local television of the aftermath of a U.S. drone strike?’ And they couldn’t tell me. The reason for that is because we don’t show those pictures here. American media refuses to show those images.”

The US government uses the label “terrorist” as a tool of propaganda; repaints a coup as if it were the elected government of a nation. US news isn’t news — it’s gossip, propaganda, entertainment and sensationalism. If I want to know something the last place I would go is the US State Department of US corporate controlled faux news media. And I’m in my 60s.

Just like the stranglehold on the two parties have on our government so does transnational companies have the same hold upon the media in this nation, in Washington it is estimated that there are 25,000 lobbyist registered and unregistered, throwing around 100 million dollars, how can this media system not be corrupt?

Re: Swann pointed out that some of those companies have changed ownership since 2011

Well, the ownership and control is probably still kept by the same tribe. As I understand it, the tribe has had this control on the major media outlets for at least 100 years.

If they control the MSM, they can manufacture peoples perception of the World. They can air a Hollywood movie on national news for as long as it takes for the majority or almost everyone to believe the scripted story. They have better receipts than the War of the Worlds today (Sandy Hook Hoax? Boston Smoke Bomb?), but still a 100% pure virtual reality they can create.

The same gang who control the media also have total control on the election process, so they are always able to pull up their controllable puppet and hand him the keys to the White House. Then they can place their agents in the Gov wherever they want, etc and so on.

First step to get out of their world-view-control-system or the Weapon of Mass Deception, is to kick out the TV and watch September Clues a few times (including addendums).

Pulling back the curtain on the Wizard of Oz has never been more rewarding than today. We have been hoodwinked from the get-go, and we do not respect those who pander to us with simple recipes for what ails us. Our founding fathers gave us Article V which enables two-thirds of the state legislatures to call for a Constitutional Convention. That is our birthright. Here is how we are also working with our allies: @KarenHudes
Thanking our allies, and taking responsibility for taking back the reins from the puppet masters:

Thanks for stories like this Ben. I first started noticing something was amiss when I used to watch CNN in the am before work. It was the morning after the historic 1994 congressional elections that returned power to the Republicans for the first time in 40 years. The lead story at CNN that day was the fact that Ted Kennedy and Chuck Robb, Two Dems, were reelected. I haven’t watched them since.
The so called Conservatives and Republicans were no better. I came to see that they love the libertarian positions of Ron Paul, until election time. Every election season Mr. Paul became a crackpot racist. Once the election was over they all loved him again.

Time to break the corporatist monopolies….

Ben – although I agree with your comments about American media, I have nothing but disdain for RT. I have been spending considerable amounts of time in Russia and Ukraine for the last 17 years and many consider me an expert on this region. I have watched RT since it began in 2005 (as Russia Today) and the RT of 2014 is very different from the RT of 2005. I respected the old RT. It is entirely funded by the Kremlin and all journalists who did not agree with the Putin perspective were purged from the network several years ago. Now it is a pure propaganda outlet. I have been to demonstrations in Kiev and closely watched both sides of the conflict. When I watch the RT coverage of the exact same news event – it bears almost no resemblance to what actually happened. It is drastically slanted to reflect the position that Putin has taken on the subject. I don’t think it is good for your reputation to be seen on something as slanted as RT. It is analogous to being a guest on radio Berlin in 1938 and criticizing French or British radio.

    • Gregg Braddoch

Agreed. I am not much for the CNN, and MSNBC US government propaganda, but is Russian propaganda much better? I think not. I doubt Putin wants to help the American people anymore than the corrupt in our own government and media.

To put it into perspective: The powerful always want more power. Any dissent in the USA is a good thing for Putin, and so while some RT articles may have a grain of truth (similar to the US media) most of them are probably exaggerated to manufacture trouble for America.

  • Walter Cronkite

The way you break corporate media monopolies is by tuning them out. Boycott them en masse and their ad revenues will dry up.

Der…”You dont need us to tell you gas prices are rising” repeat parrots on every station across the nation. One liners filter from the WH to ALL stations. Its already a government run media. Congress is finally catching up & putting the pieces together with a little help from social media. We have known for years about who is married to who from the WH to the Media.

With regards to the Bundy incident.I don’t have to tell anyone, what we all already know…. authority is this country has exposed themselves as a gang of legalized criminals… LAWS are bullshit and will no longer be respected. The game is over. You will see this again and again until it blows up with some trigger happy cop and thats it…. Civil war IS already upon us,… the only question is when will “the shot heard around the world” will be shot.

I love the info we receive from RT (Russia Today), which our own corporate media refuses to provide. My concern is how much legitimate information do the Russian people receive? All World wide media outlets should be reporting the truth to their citizens,.our specie’s survival depends upon it. Let us not trade one form of control for another. Long Live Our Internet. Paul, what you have to understand is that the entire bundy ranch thing is probably just government propoganda. This is the question you have to ask yourself: Since the mainstream media only reports what they want you to know, then why have they reported on and given coverage to this issue?? I don’t know what their agenda is behind this story but it is designed to get a response from the general public. For whatever reason, they want you to feel the way you do.
As for RT, I liked a lot of what they used to do, but recently, for whatever reason, they appear to be going by the wayside. And, trust me, RT knows fact from fiction- they have reported on obviously staged events like the Ferguson riots, for instance. They dropped their only good show, the Truthseeker, and you can’t even find old shows anymore when searching the RT archive. Why is that? Also Abby Martin from Breaking the Set recently did a show where she called anyone who talks about geoengineering or staged events like Sandy hook crazy conspiracy theorists. She sounded just like the mainstream media. As sad as it is , RT simply cannot be trusted anymore. In the past, we’ve had the left-right media paradigm, now we may have a new type of paradigm in terms of mainstream media vs. supposedly real “alternative media.” This is what may be going on with RT. I don’t know. All I do know is that any media which promotes lies and doesn’t report on important facts can no longer be trusted.

Going to RT, CCTV, PressTV or the internet is the only way to get a contrasted opinion to North American corporate media which is all under Zionist control…
