NASHVILLE, January 30, 2014–  A video below shows a completely restrained inmate getting pepper spayed in the face by Rutherford County Deputy Sheriff Vanderveer. Vanderveer claims that the inmate was being combative in a report. However, the video evidence does not warrant those claims.

Although the events leading up to the sheriff’s assault on the inmate are  not immediately clear, the inmate in no way seems combative during the duration of the video.

According to the video provided by the Rutherford County Tennessee Beacon, The inmate was sprayed in the face and left in the room to choke on the fumes without the ability to use his hands or feet for at least fifteen minutes.

Vanderveer received a warning from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s office where the event took place.

Well, the deputy received a warning, so that’s alright now–justice served and problem solved… right? Wait, are you saying the deputy obviously just committed a felony crime, and should not only be fired but be imprisoned? But that’s impossible, because as we all know, anything a law enforcement officer does while in the course of his duties by definition can’t be a crime… can it?

    • stupidcops

and cops wonder why they get shot. This deputy is a prime candidate.

  • Tom223

It’s torture. “Let me cuff your ankle or we’ll spray acid in your eyes until you do.”

    • Ricky Ross

Sadly, most Americans were for torture several years ago when the government said that our manufactured enemies needed to be tortured, so that they could get “valuable” information from them to “protect us” …

… the chickens have come home to roost!

      • Taurug Baca

Most Americans still haven’t woken up. The constant drumming into the sheeps’ heads by the Corporatocracy-Media conglomerates makes it kind of hard. But you’re right, there’s no excuse.

  • stupidcops

Only a warning? And what did the female deputy receive? Should have received assault charges instead of an inhouse warning.

  • John

Remember, the left only wants these guys to have the guns.

    • Derp

It’s actually bi-partisan if you pay ANY attention at all.

      • Josh McCullough

There’s no such thing as “bi-partisan” when you’re talking about Democrats and Republicans. Behind the curtain they’re the same party.

      • TheEditor

He’s right. He didn’t mention democrat or republican, as they are both one and the same. He stated the “left”, as in the socialists that want to circumvent the Constitution/Bill of Rights, and make up their own “laws”.

  • leslie green

This is so horrific that I just can’t stand watching it. They weren’t fired? How can that be? That was nothing short of torture. The police dept. there must be among the most psychopathic in the country… cruel, savage, evil

  • Pointman

displacedjim, You can watch all the films you want but until you understand use of force laws and principles of force continuum, you will be hard pressed to make any statement about torture. A lot of people watch a video of something going on and really have no idea of the entire situation and what actually transpired. I was in law enforcement and while there are crooked cops, most that I have worked with follow the law and the guidelines setup by the department. Try working in an officers shoes sometime and find out what they have to deal with daily.

    • Rudya

Wake up pointman. As long as the “blue wall of silence” continues to exist, your arguments are weak.

    • Seriously?

and if somebody even SAYS something you don’t like, just pepper spray the sunuvabitch, you’ll get away with it, innit? There’s clearly no reason for any of that unless physically provoked. Figures though, they have IQ requirements for many police dpts such that they majority of cops will be the kind of peanut heads to actually get their panties in a twist over WORDS, because that’s the only possible reason (if any, truly) that this cop would pepper spray a restrained guy. and that’s not a very good reason, you know. Oh, and also not to exercise any sort of discretion or astute judgement. you were on the force, you should know how this is better than any of us.

    • shon

I was a cop too, and this is bullshit. This kid should demand their oaths of office and bonding information. He should have them removed from the force, never to work in law enforcement again. He should then do the same for the sheriff and sue the hell out of the county, the sheriff, and the officers. This crap is wrong, wrong and there was NO JUST CAUSE OF ACTION on the part of this officer at this point. It’s agg. assault, period. If they can’t handle the what they “deal with” every day, they shouldn’t be there to begin with. The problem today is too many people in law enforcement and the government think they are above the law.

    • displacedjim

I never said anything about “torture.” But I get your point about “force continuum,” which seems to always devolve into what I call “gaining force superiority.” Just like in an ambush or a firefight where you want your guys to gain fire superiority over the enemy, law enforcement appear to all be trained to gain force superiority over the enemy (which, in most cases for a law enforcement officer, is an American citizen): Start with body language and command voice to try to attain compliance with your demands, but whenever you’re met with anything other than complete submission, ratchet up the level of force as necessary to change their attitude. Wash, rinse, repeat, until he’s beaten down and compliant, or dead. It doesn’t seem to matter what the situation is, what caused it, what the alleged infraction or crime was, or anything else: Do whatever it takes to get whoever you’re dealing with at that moment to fully comply with anything you’ve decided to make him do.
      Ruspekt muh ahthoratah!!!
Regarding your rationalizations and excuses about some bad apples and walking a mile in their corfams, that comes with the job. If some public servant regrets that, quit.

    • concerned

pointman, you must be one of those scum officers we watch in these videos every week. Your time will come.

  • Tough Choice

    Looks like torture to me.

    • casterofpeals

this falls under cruel and unusual punishment, as it was clearly not used in defense and restraint

    • Taurug Baca

It is clearly torture, at least as can be deduced from the video. Law officials should receive harsher sentences for torture than the general populace, seeing as they are supposed to be very familiar with the law. Plus it would highly discourage such inhumane acts.

  • Gregory Alan of Johnson

This, in part (and having been peppered before by STATE PATROL INC), is why I will never be arrested. Murdered, maybe, but never arrested. I’m not under the Luciferian municipal corporation jurisdiction. I’m under Yehovah/Yeshua, whether they like it or not.
Corporation policy (statutes/codes/ordinances with the appearance of “law”) do NOT apply to the living Man/Woman. It ONLY applies to corporation entities like the 14th amendment “United States citizen”.

  • Michael Norton

I know that if that was done to me, and I got out without a huge monetary award from the county and that cop fired, I would go on a rampage killing that cop and his entire family. I understand why people like Chris Dorner did what he did.

    • Ed

Evidently, the cops never do this to keyboard warriors.

  • Raven

these cops are making the case for the citizens to start killing police
officers!! If this keeps up, people will defend themselves. Fear is the
main tactic of law enforcement officers, that same fear will soon turn
against them when they receive the same medicine they been dishing

  • David

Police need to understand what the word “blowback” means. Unpunished acts like this are going turn law-abiding citizens into your worst nightmare.

  • heman

What in hell country do we live in!!!! We the people are fed up and have seen enough bully thugs from FBI, DEA, CIA, police gangsters and on and on. We should abolish most of you. Send all of you punks to North Korea where you
get equal treatment. Remember bullies treat others like you want to be treated or you will reap what you sow. Hopefully your family members will never be treated like this. Keep doing these unjust acts and this is what you’ll get because you helped bring this crap to America. Thankfully we have true warriors ready to battle when you jackasses start to hurt our children, mothers, or the weak elderly. You scum have to hurt people when their hands are tied behind their back. Some of you even do things to folks when they least expect it. You know who Im talking about. What a bunch of sick cowards!!!!!!! Keep serving beelzebub, but you will lose when the sword of righteousness brings you down. We are warriors for Christ!!!! Nothing evil can stop us. We never forgive pure evil or forget. Wake up America!!!! The time is near.

  • Cheryl Newcomb

These cops are sick sadists. Is this what kind of psychos they’re hiring to protect and serve?? This is nothing short of a torture session.

  • Concerned

This is why all cops are evil. The other officer in room did nothing to stop this. She is guilty also. They will pay for these atrocities. All cops that are decent must stand up, but they don’t, because they are all scum.

  • Keith duwan

There are plenty of decent cops and many of them go above and beyond what is required of them when they see strangers who are endangered. I wish that these decent cops were conscientious about informing on the scum who wear their uniforms. Until miscreant cops are no longer threats to the public, many people will continue to view all cops as potentially vile violators of our rights.
