This video was sent to me to demonstrate what happens when a Sheriff’s deputy who respects the Constitution is sent out to an open carry demonstration.

According to Truth Seeker Daily, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on the scene after his department received calls from the public about a small group of men demonstrating along side a busy street. The men were open carrying firearms and holding home made signs.

“We saw the Oakland County Sheriff car pull up so we all took out our camera-phones right away, anticipating trouble. This officer gets out of his car, waves to us, and walks right over. He shakes all of our hands, introduces himself, and states his purpose for walking over to us.”

Too often we show videos of police and sheriff’s deputies who are failing to recognize the Constitutional rights of protestors. When a law enforcement officer demonstrates his commitment to the rule of law, it should be pointed out. If for no other reason than to remind other law enforcement of how to treat those whom they are sworn to serve.

A friend of mine showed me this video 2 days ago. If we had more cops like this guy we would be on a better more educated path with our rights intact.

  • sdrozdowski

FOR LIBERTY!!!! Thanks Ben for covering this!!

  • Kevin Merck

To be honest, this man put a huge lump in my throat and made it a little tough to focus visually on the computer screen.

This is the kind of man we need in our police forces nationwide. This man is a true patriot and genuine American hero.

I love this type of person, with all my heart, and would not hesitate to put my life on the line to stand with him in any situation imaginable.

Pigs, like the racist cop in Maryland, who arrested a father for exercising his right to free speech, belong in prison.

This man and others like him deserve the best our country has to offer them.

  • Cheryl Newcomb

This man is the epitome of what every law enforcement agent should be.

  • Colorado

Ben – I think this would be an awesome interview opportunity.

  • ObamaBinLyin

It shows how bad things have gotten that this excites people.

    • MaineShark

Ain’t that the truth. When you have to thank folks for not assaulting and possibly murdering you, that shows a pretty sick society. Not that he, personally, doesn’t deserve some commendation for stepping a bit out the ordinary, but it provides a pretty stark commentary on society…

      • Kevin Merck

Cops like this are pretty rare in society today.
I hope it doesn’t take a crushed skull, by the boot of one of the thousands of thugs we have in uniform, for you to realize how much praise this guy deserves.

        • MaineShark

Yeah. It’s just a sad commentary on society that it takes bravery to just act like a decent human being. If this guy can stand up to the corruption present in the police force enough to act decent, imagine what he could achieve if he didn’t have to waste energy pushing back against his “brothers.” It’s sad that we have to praise decency, when we should be able to praise the same individual for even-better actions.

          • Kevin Merck

I hear what you’re saying, but in a country where the government ships jobs overseas to bankrupt the people, spends away our future, and invades other countries for oil and heroin, I’ll take decency in a heartbeat.

Oath keepers, like this cop, and others like sheriff Richard Mack, are doing a lot to save our country. I think they deserve all the praise we can muster.

        • Vanessa

Cops like this are actually MUCH MORE COMMON than your post implies. The problem is that small amount of officers that misfit the profession are sensationalized by media and those (not unlike yourself) who spread propaganda.

          • Kevin Merck

I wish you were right, I really do, but you are dead wrong.

Of the county sheriffs in America less than 10% are members of Oath Keepers. That is the bright spot for America in “law enforcement”.

The **vast majority** of cops in city police forces are little more than gangsters, criminals and militarized psychopaths.

Unfortunately, that’s the truth, cupcake, not propaganda.

          • iowapam

What about the group ‘Constitutional Sheriffs’? A fairly large group who take the Constitution and their oath of office completely serious and follow both. Check them out online…

          • Kevin Merck

            They’re oath keepers.

          • Dana Brown

            Sophistry at its finest.
10% of county Sherfffs may be accurate. Do your figures include deputies, city and state police as well. I already know the answer is, “No.”
You appear to be intentionally skewing the figures to favor your bias.
Not cool. Get real. Be honest.

        • Dana Brown

did you follow the link to the police gun control survey that was posted by a previous commenter?
It is informative and might, just might, allow you to alter your opinion.
          Here it is:

    • Kevin Merck

Do you mean that ridiculous avatar or the fact that this cop deserves praise for not being a traitor?
Things are **extremely bad** in case you haven’t noticed.

      • ObamaBinLyin

You have to be retarded if you think I was talking about my avatar.

        • Kevin Merck

“You have to be retarded if you think I was talking about my avatar.”
No, you have to be retarded to have that avatar.

  • ashleigh

yesss, this is great! a positive light being shed on people helping defend LIBERTY! love this!

  • leslymill

That sure made me look up at the sky and say Thank You Jesus. My state may have Harry Reid but we have fine policemen who love Ron Paul and the OathKeepers.

  • Idealistic Citzofwrld

Very good. I felt this cop was genuine. He needs to be commended by all. Having said that, I hope, he’s the same way when he’s around other cops or a commanding officer that doesn’t feel the same way he does. Group pressure can make some people do things they wouldn’t do while alone.

    • Dana Brown

My opinion is that he has the balls to get on camera, explain his views, uphold the Constitution, and identify and praise his township. He’s not the one who’ll be knuckling under. I don’t think he’s going to be one of the fools riding an MRAP to stop a peaceful demonstration.

  • Loki Luck III

Keep on spreading the message of love…. homage.

  • Sheepdog_CT

Believe me folks, that deputy is one of the majority of officers who support this. We won’t be officers forever. Semper Fi! Take the time to view this survey:

    • Dana Brown

Thank you for the excellent link. That report has an important message, I think. When push comes to shove I believe most of the cops will be our allies.
It had such a positive effect on me I’m going to have to spread it as far and wide as I can.
      Again, thank you.
Please allow me to thank you for your service to our nation; while in-service and as you continue now.

      • Sheepdog_CT

Your welcome Dana, I am living my dream job! Semper Fi (USMC 1975-1979)

could have been sited for carrying while protesting… it is against the law in Cali. but then again, so is open carry now.

    • Buster McKnuckles

This is in Oakland County, Michigan.

    • greenthumb707

This is Orion township, Oakland county Mich.

    • sgtguthrie

Not in Michigan! We can open carry inside the state capital during protests if we so choose 😉

When you live in a totalitarian state like California or New York, you’ve elected to give up these kind of freedoms…among many many others.

      • Kevin Merck

That’s not true. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land and cannot be “given up” by the states, no matter who is elected or what the majority wants.

        • sgtguthrie

That was meant kind of “tongue in cheek”, as in what do you expect if you live in a liberal utopia like California or New York. That is in no way a justification, I agree with you. Lighten up, it was a joke 😉

    • Dude

Wow, 1st and 2nd amendments violated at the same time.

    Ron Paul: YES,
    Rand Paul: not so much.

  • gman68137

Good public outreach for this Sheriff’s office. Respect.

  • Jay Volk

Admirable, I see waay too many videos of unprofessionalism within the ranks of our police in regards to public demonstrations such as this. Give that man a raise, hell TWO raises; He is someone I do not mind paying for to defend us and protect our streets.

  • Bryan Marsh

I really feel that this was one of the most positive videos I have seen. People who were not doing anything wrong , not being harassed by the law. The fact he understood our rights and allowed those men to demostrate and prove that we have not yet lost those rights. I just want to say thank you to the officer for giving my child someone to look up to who does where a badge.

  • Dana Brown

We need to see more cops like this. The real ones who give a damn about their responsibilities and are educated well enough to make rational decisions.
It might go a long way to educate citizens when they see honest cops following the freedom road and reduce their (citizen’s) fear of getting involved if they happen to be straddling the fence.
I truly appreciate this video–and I admire the deputy in it as well as the demonstrators who showed a great deal of class.
