50-year-old Miami man Andrew Mossberg claims he was kicked in the head and knocked unconscious just for being a good samaritan.

On June 26, a 29-year-old model named Megan Adamescu was inebriated and causing a disturbance in the lobby of the South Bay Club hotel. After she refused to leave the premises, the front desk called police for assistance. Adrian Aponte, the hotel concierge, said, “She was passed out on the lobby’s sofa. She was in a very terrible condition.”

Detective Philippe Archer was only a block away when the call came in — at the time, he was in the middle of an undercover drug investigation. Archer made his way over the the hotel to assist. Since he was undercover, he was wearing plain clothing and arrived in an unmarked car.

Aponte said, “After about half an hour, I called police a third time and an undercover officer came. He identified himself to us… He always said he was a police officer. He asked [Adamescu] to leave the property.” At that point, she walked out.

Once Adamescu left the building, Archer asked her for identification. According to Archer’s police report, Adamescu “was so intoxicated that she could not retrieve her I.D. after numerous attempts… I removed her purse from her person and retrieved her passport.”

This was when Andrew Mossberg, a neighborhood local, happened to walk by. He was with his 12-year-old son and beagle dog.

Mossberg thought he was witnessing a robbery in action, because Archer was not in uniform.

Mossberg said, “I saw [the officer] grab her purse and pull things out of it. When she tried to grab the bag back, [the officer] punched her in the face. She fell down, got up, and tried to go for her purse again. He then kicked her legs from underneath her so she would fall down again.”

Mossberg reacted by immediately calling the non-emergency police line on a nearby phone. As Mossberg was calling, he yelled at Archer, saying that police were on their way.

Then things got ugly.

Mossberg said, “That’s when he ran at me, kicked me once in the left side of the head, then kicked me again in the forehead, and punched me twice.”

Detective Archer, however, claimed that Adamescu became violent towards him and that he had to defend himself, which resulted in knocking her to the ground. Archer claimed Mossberg observed this, and then attacked. Archer wrote in his police report that Mossberg “charged me, preparing to attack me. I conducted a front kick to his abdomen area, causing him to step back. [Mossberg] became enraged and came back at me.”

During the incident, Mossberg was knocked unconscious. His mugshot shows bruising to the face and a shoe print right in his forehead:

It is hard to judge this incident based on the competing allegations.
