IRAQ, July 24, 2014–
EDITOR NOTE- Multiple sources are doubting the claim of this “fatwa”, demonstrating that the claims of forced circumcision are actually over a year old. The reports appear to come from a single tweet. The date on this “fatwa” was from last year, July 11, 2013 corresponding to 3rd Ramadan and purportedly published in Aleppo Province [of Syria] by the Islamic State under the orders of Abu Bakr Al Baghdad. Even if this “fatwa” were still in effect, it would actually predate ISIS to a time when they were ISIL and not yet in control areas in Iraq. -Ben Swann
According to a Reuters report published by NBC news, ISIS militants have ordered all girls and women in and around Iraq’s northern city of Mosul to undergo female genital mutilation. The report comes from the United Nations’ Jacqueline Badcock.
“This is something very new for Iraq, particularly in this area, and is of grave concern and does need to be addressed,” she said. “This is not the will of Iraqi people, or the women of Iraq in these vulnerable areas covered by the terrorists,” said Badcock.
American Muslims are reacting in disgust to the reports.
“As native Iraqi-Kurd I am appalled and disgusted by the way ISIS continues to treat minorities in the cities they control through the complete distortion & misinterpretation of Islam for their own extremist agenda. From the forced expulsion of Christians from Mosul to the treatment of women, these are vicious attacks not only against minorities but all Iraqis,” Remziya Suleyman, a well-known Muslim-American activist, told BenSwann.com.
“I stand with my fellow Iraqis as they condemn & confront the havoc that ISIS has created. The continuous instability brought to the region by this radical insurgency must be dealt with & stopped immediately through an international effort before further acts of brutality are committed.”
