Claims should be supported by reliable evidence. Whenever possible, reporting begins with original documents, direct testimony, public records, and primary-source material.
Context and fairness
Facts should be presented with enough context to be understood. Relevant perspectives and credible evidence that challenge an initial conclusion should be considered.
Independence
Editorial judgment should not be directed by political parties, institutions, advertisers, donors, or other outside interests.
Transparency
Sources, methods, and uncertainty should be identified when doing so is responsible and does not put a source at risk.
